Community Planning and Development serves to enhance economic growth and the vitality of communities in the unincorporated areas of Sacramento County through the following:



  • Economic Development is responsible for attracting, retaining and growing jobs and commerce for sustainable communities.
  • Environmental Review and Assessment is the central point of contact for processing environmental review and prepares California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents for all privately and publicly initiated projects.

  • Neighborhood Services provides certain county services locally through its Community Service Centers to residents and business owners and supports neighborhood associations.
  • Planning Division administers the County’s land use planning program, to include: countywide planning; specific and community planning; current planning and zoning; planning review; and Community Planning Advisory Councils.
    • Infill Development Program promotes better use of building sites through reuse and repositioning of obsolete or underutilized buildings.
    • Sustainability Program serves to help improve and preserve the environment, increase efficiency, create jobs and build the new green economy.
